Most indoor plants need watering once a week, but this depends on the plant type, pot size, and environmental conditions. Check the soil moisture before watering - if the top inch feels dry, it's time to water.
Snake plants, pothos, ZZ plants, and spider plants are excellent choices for beginners. They tolerate irregular watering and varying light conditions, making them very forgiving.
Light requirements vary by plant. Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch leaves, while too little light causes leggy growth. Observe your plant's response and adjust placement accordingly.
Yellow leaves can indicate overwatering, underwatering, nutrient deficiency, or natural aging. Check soil moisture, ensure proper drainage, and consider fertilizing if the plant hasn't been fed recently.
Repot when roots grow through drainage holes, the plant becomes top-heavy, or growth slows significantly. Spring is the ideal time for repotting. Choose a pot 1-2 inches larger than the current one.
